HELLEBORUS

A member of the Ranunculaceae family, Helleborus are known as "Lenten Rose" or "Christmas Woods Rose". Helleborus are one of the first blooms of early spring gardens. They display a wide range of petal colors and bloom shapes.

These winter-blooming, thick leaved evergreen adapt to a wide range of light and soil conditions, and are especially suited to our Northwest area. They can be grown outdoors all year long in zone 6 and above. If they are pot grown inside a cool area such as a greenhouse or cold frame, they will survive winter in lower temperature areas.

If grown from seed, they can be expected to bloom the second year after planting. They will be mature at 18-24" of height, and flower from the end of January through April. This plant thrives in half sun and half shade, with good drainage.
